Dr. McKechnie is leading and guiding the next generation of nurses to implement scholarship in practice.
Dr. McKechnie has demonstrated exceptional contributions to the implementation of scholarship in practice through her interventions to support families before and after the birth of their children with complex health needs. Dr. McKechnie is innovative in her ability to bridge the gap between theory and practice and has an intentional approach to including students in every endeavor. She has cultivated a unique academic/ clinical partnership with the GetWellNetwork (GWN); a company leading the industry in precision engagement.
As PI, Dr. McKechnie is leading an innovative intervention study, working with GWN to design a custom patient engagement pathway, Preparing Heart and MindTM. The pathway is a secure technological platform with a parent-facing app and an interactive dashboard for nurses. The pathway will include newly conceptualized psychosocial content and a new nurse-guided approach to patient engagement. Students at all levels are mentored to understand and appreciate the research-practice link through Dr. McKechnie’s intentional approach to engaging undergraduate and graduate students in her research, from the conception stage of grants through the dissemination of completed work. Through co-creation, co-development, co-authorship of engaged scholarship, Dr. McKechnie is leading and guiding the next generation of nurses to implement scholarship in practice. This is evidence of the long-term impact that Dr. McKechnie will have as a nursing leader and scholar.
