Anne Moran, RN of Complex Chronic Conditions is being honored with a DAISY Award based on nomination submissions from several of her colleagues, who wrote:

My nominee was asked to assess an elderly couple (92 y/o) in their home. She discovered emotional tension and fiduciary abuse wrought by an adult child and spouse that was causing significant emotional suffering to both the elderly people. She reported to APS. She further advocated for the couple when the husband was brought to the ED and while in the hospital. The abusing child and spouse had conspired to get the elderly husband declared incompetent by provoking what was trumped up to be aggressive and threatening behavior. Anne Moran alerted me to include APS assessment when I was asked to evaluate capacity. She further attended a family meeting, maintained her equanimity, advocated for the patients and provided compassion for the parents and their adult child throughout what was the most emotionally toxic family meeting I have seen in my 31 years as a licensed physician. The outcome was a success to the elderly couple and Anne Moran was thanked by the elderly wife for helping see her way through the adult child's abusive behavior. The elderly couple will now be able to stay in their own home, with care givers and with a payee who cannot, by law, mis-spend their money.
