December 2025 Honoree
Anne Smith 2025, RN, PMH-BC
We had a Gold Star dinner at our complex. Anne came up to me and said, "You have to know who I am," and I said, "You were at the VA clinic on the 2nd floor." She said they were concerned about my feet, and I said, " Mind your own business." She responded, " Please let us look at it in the clinic," which is in our building.
She was so nice to me, so I agreed.
Doctor H. said, "You're going to the emergency room."
If nurse Anne hadn’t come up to me that day, I would have died of MRSA, which was in my foot, which they amputated. I didn't want to go and leave my dog, Roscoe, so nurse Anne and her family watched Roscoe for me.
I mean, who does that?
Months later, my other foot was getting really bad, but I did not go to the clinic. Then, last Thursday, I got a knock at 5:30 in the morning. Nurse Anne said, "Get your backside to the clinic at 11 today."
Guess what? MRSA was in my second toe. Once again, she saved me and said, "Don't worry about Roscoe, he is all taken care of."
I will tell you who the greatest nurse is: it's Anne.
