Annie was the angel in disguise the night my son had just come out of surgery. He was tired, scared, and in lots of pain going into what would be one of the longest nights he had since the start of his illness a week prior. During her long 12-hour shift, Annie never once got frustrated and remained calm through all of his emotions and demands he had of her. Her calm and reassuring presence helped him, even when he felt nothing was going to work. She stayed on top of his pain medication and made sure he was as comfortable as he could be even when the medication wasn't working as we had hoped. Annie showed great compassion and patience towards him during this time. He even said it himself by saying "I'm lucky she is my nurse tonight because it's like I have two moms taking care of me tonight".
