It is now almost a month since we lost our precious mom/grandmother, and not a day goes by without us thinking and talking about that nurse named Annie, who helped us during the most overwhelmingly tragic time in our lives.
Our mom/grandmother was admitted to Baptist Health (Drew) with Gangrene from a severe blood clot to her leg. She was literally dying right along with her leg. We would be there for the next eight days until her death. During our time there, one nurse stood out from the very first day. This nurse, Ms. Annie Smith, was so caring, and after listening to us talk while she was in the room caring for the patient, she picked up on the fact that the granddaughters, even though their ages were 28 and 35, were having a very hard time since they were losing the last Grandparent they had left. This nurse, being a complete stranger, hugged them and not just a quick nudge on the shoulder but a full-fledged warm hug that felt like she was part of our family type of hug!

On the days she didn't have our mom/grandmother as a patient, she would still pop in during her lunch break or after work to give the girls a hug and ask how their grandmother was doing. She explained every little thing she did so we would know exactly what she was doing to our mom/grandmother. I know the saying about how it takes a special person to become a nurse, well let me tell you, you have one of the best nurses around working at Baptist Health Drew in Monticello, AR.

Ms. Annie Smith went above and beyond the call of duty; she is a perfect example of what a nurse should be. Other nurses or other people aspiring to be nurses could learn life lessons by watching her and the impact she has on others. We are so grateful for the care and kindness she gave not only to her "patient" but to our entire family. We will never forget the impact she had on our family. It is now almost a month since we lost our precious mom/grandmother, and not a day goes by without us thinking and talking about that nurse named Annie, who helped us during the most overwhelmingly tragic time in our lives. She was truly a blessing from above and a light in the middle of our darkness.
