I have known Annie for the past eight years or so. She joined Resurrection as an operating room nurse and soon took over the operating room as charge nurse and coordinator. In the past eight years, I have seen her take over more and more of the responsibility needed to run the OR efficiently and smoothly. It is a very stressful job, but she does it with equanimity and enthusiasm. I have seen her pitch in to relieve nurses for their breaks, fetch blood from the blood bank, and get ICU beds to transport critically ill patients back to ICU after surgery. The OR can be chaotic, especially when striving to start OR cases on time when surgeons are crowding to get operating room times when nurses and scrub techs call in sick, or when surgery cases are running late. In the middle of this, she also has the time and patience to look up lab work for scheduled cases, ensure consents are signed, obtain preoperative clearance, and gently remind surgeons, residents, and anesthesia providers that the patients are ready for them. When things go well and smoothly, she is often overlooked, but when things go wrong, she is the first one everyone looks for. I have seen firsthand how much care and effort she puts in to get the day's work done. She is literally a "Joan of Arc" on the battlefield of surgery! I wish her well! In this season of joy, I hope and pray that God blesses her and her family and that she continues to provide care for many more years. I thank her for her service. I am sure the multitude of patients who have gone through surgery would thank her, too, for her tireless work.
