Annmarie was so patient with me in the follow up appointment for my double mastectomy. She took her time to address my physical and psychological needs. I did not feel rushed, and I felt like she was present and truly cared about me as a whole person. Important information she shared with me was results and changes in treatment research and treatment care. This was so important to understand treatment options and changes in protocol from a personal standpoint as a patient and a professional standpoint as a psychologist. Annmarie immediately asked me about my psychological concerns, and she was both compassionate and informative. She offered referrals for therapy as well as addressing sexual difficulties related to cancer treatment. She also addressed my physical concerns of my lymph edema. I was not informed about options such as therapy physical and laser treatment to address this concern. I also learned from Annmarie that standing fluid in my body is vulnerable to infection. She addressed cosmetic concerns about my scar from a double mastectomy. She shared other options for me. I have had a great experience with UPMC in my cancer treatment. However, Annmarie was far and away the BEST NURSE in my treatment team!

Annmarie's knowledge, ability to communicate her knowledge, true concern about the psychological impact of cancer, and helpful suggestions to address post-surgical medical concerns were amazing. She went beyond the excellent treatment that I've received! So much so that I filled out this nomination form immediately after my appointment despite being busy to ensure this nomination would be received immediately.
