It is my pleasure to nominate Annmarie for The DAISY Award. I cannot think of any other nurse more deserving than her. Annmarie does several things for everyone; she is the unsung hero in many of her patients' and co-workers' lives. While there are several reasons for Annmarie to be nominated, this is the one that sticks out in my mind. Annmarie called a patient to see if she was coming to her appointment, as she hadn't shown up yet. While she was on the phone with this patient, the patient told Annmarie that she was going to end her life. The patient told Annmarie that she had just taken pills with the hope of dying. As she was talking to the patient, the patient started mumbling and was less responsive. Annmarie used her staff safety alarm to call another nurse for help. She instructed the other nurse to call 911. Annmarie stayed on the phone, continually talking to the patient and letting the patient know that she was there and that the patient was not alone. Thanks to Annmarie and her swift actions, this patient lived. When this patient arrived at our ER, Annmarie was able to go down and provide the back story to the ER provider. While talking with other staff who witnessed this firsthand, they said, "Annmarie taught other staff without even knowing she was doing it." This is our Annmarie - always putting others first."
