M's assigned nurse was Anthony. He went to work doing all that was required and expected of all ICU nurses. Then M took a turn for the worse, becoming an agitated and unruly patient. During the time this was going on, Anthony remained calm, staying as best he could ahead of her needs. After it became clear that Hospice was the only option for M, he made the transition smooth and seamless. Anthony showed care and compassion, provided tremendous support for the family, and managed to show us a sense of humor when one was greatly needed. He kept us informed with updates and questioned the family as to our needs. He flawlessly managed the patient and family with such ease that it made an upsetting situation tolerable. Up until the minute he was off duty, he never left our side.

Anthony very much deserves to be recognized with this award. We, as a family, cannot begin to express our gratitude for all the staff here at Blodgett for the exceptional care M and all of us received.
