Anthony helped ensure the safety of the patient and that a major situation was avoided.
I am a doctor that covers at night in Miami VA. One night a patient was admitted from another hospital due to an infection in a device in his left hip. This patient arrived with a PICC line which is an intravenous line that is meant for long-term use and is meant to reach the heart. When this patient arrived I had my colleague preparing to place orders for antibiotics. When I went to the ward to speak with the patient, Anthony notified me that X-Ray orders should be placed for PICC placement verification. I was confused by the request as the PICC line was being used by the other hospital and I didn't initially consider it needed to order the X-Ray.

Anthony explained the importance of it since the PICC was placed at a different hospital. Well after the X-Ray was completed I was notified by the National Radiology Department that the imaging showed that the patient's PICC line was not at the heart but in one of the veins of the patient's neck. I quickly notified Anthony to not use the PICC line and that the patient would need it fixed or a new one would need to be placed. Anthony helped ensure the safety of the patient and that a major situation was avoided.
