My mom and dad both were admitted to your ED with severe vomiting from a stomach bug. A neighbor brought them to the hospital since I live an hour away. As the neighbor was talking to me on her cell to let me know the situation, I heard a voice say "would you like for me to talk to her". He introduced himself as Antonio Hankins, and after appropriate identification from me, he then proceeded to update me on my mom and dad's condition. I am a nurse myself and he very appropriately and compassionately reassured me that he would take good care of my parents, and even ended the conversion with "drive safely, we are taking good care of them and they are fine".
Upon arrival, I continued to be amazed at the level of professionalism and compassion Antonio showed to my family that night. As we were being discharged he made sure we had extra emesis beds and Kleenex in the event we had another episode of vomiting on the 30-minute drive to their home.
Over the past 5 years, we have had our share of hospital stays and ED visits and without a doubt, Antonio is at the top of the list of care providers we have experienced. He showed no evidence of rushing or impatience with any of the slowness often exhibited by elderly patients. It was very evident Antonio loves his job and his patients.
