June 2018 Honoree
anup sidhu, RN
The patient stated her night shift nurse, Anup, greeted her so kindly when she arrived just after change of shift the night before. She did her assessment and reviewed test results with her. She sat with her and answered her questions to try and relax M, so she could get some sleep. This seems like a little task that many nurses do, but it was different for M. Anup took the time to explain to M what was done, what is being done and what to expect. She helped M feel comfortable being in the hospital. M then stated after a few hours, Anup came back in and offered to call family since no one was or has been present throughout her stay. This is where the empathy and compassion that Anup shares with all her patients made a difference in M's stay at Hershey Medical Center. What Anup did not know was M lost her husband, who was her best friend, this past fall. She has had chest pain and other ailments since then and has struggled to get herself together. Anup took the time out of her busy shift to talk with M, get to know her and work on her needs. They built this trusting bond in which Anup was able to give M the emotional support she needed so badly but was unable to articulate.
Thank you, Anup, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
