April repeatedly congratulated me and made me feel wanted. And most of all she made me feel human!
As a recovering drunk and cocaine addict, people especially nurses, doctors, etc judge you and look at you as less than or unworthy of respect, trust or care.
April Fultz on the other hand was present when a podiatry doctor came to deliver the news that I would be losing a large chunk of my foot.
I explained to April how I was in treatment and instead of giving up and relapsing to take care of the pain in my foot, I came to the hospital to remain sane and sober after these long hard 45 days of sobriety.
That story to some would fix their minds and eyes with disgust, April repeatedly congratulated me and made me feel wanted. And most of all she made me feel human!
I appreciate the fact that she didn't judge me and made me feel like a human...like someone.
UC is probably the slowest hospital I've ever been to but I learned it's for a reason. There's no lack of effort here whether it be with medical or other departments. Most of the nurses like April are an example of what and how a nurse is supposed to treat a patient, an addict or drunk, as a human overall.
Thank you April and thank you UC Health.
