She is an outstanding nurse, a born caregiver, and she made me feel at home, like I was being cared for by a trusted friend.
I am a 76-year-old woman who suffered a fall resulting in emergency surgery at Tanner in Carrollton. At my request, I was sent to Higgins rehab/swing bed at Higgins in October. The nurse checking on me was April Hood. She was efficient, gentle, and reassuring. It was to my good fortune that she was my nurse frequently during my stay.
Her attention to detail was amazing. She prepared me by explaining what to expect from the OT and PT staff. She reassured me daily that what I was experiencing with pain, loss of appetite, and digestive issues was normal, and she took measures to alleviate the problems. If I complained of indigestion, she immediately put in a request to add an antacid to my med list. When my arthritic pain got bad in my feet, she quickly obtained permission for Voltaren ointment. She listened to me, she comforted me, she made me feel safe and well, cared for.
She quickly became a friend and a confidante. She is an outstanding nurse, a born caregiver, and she made me feel at home, like I was being cared for by a trusted friend. Taking the time to get to know me, sharing information, and acting on my behalf, her gentle and efficient care makes her a perfect candidate for my eternal thanks and certainly recognition.
This is April's 2nd DAISY Award!
