On Easter Sunday, the family of one of our patients decided to withdraw care. This patient had been on our unit for a while. Due to her illness, she lost nearly all her hair and the family had been covering her head with pillowcases and towels. Knowing the situation, April brought in a pretty pink scarf for the patient to wear for the Holiday and her final hours. This small gesture made the patient look beautiful and I know it touched the family, as well. It was the perfect example of patient centered care and promoting human dignity.
