She called my wife when my hands were shaking, and I will never forget her kindness and attention to duty. I am better physically, emotionally, and mentally because of this caring nurse. She was not too busy to help an old soldier.
There was a patient on 2S-MED/SURG who had an RRT called due to Chest Pain. The order was to transfer the patient to the ICU to start a Nitroglycerin drip. Ms. Phillips came in early for her 4 - MN shift and received hand-off from the previous Nurse, who did not inform her of the patient's status. Ms. Phillips quickly got the patient to the ICU, which improved his outcome. Thanks to Ms. Phillips for her quick assessment skills and action.

Ms. April Phillips is not only a leader but also a team leader in her profession. She displays kindness to all the patients. She is a God-fearing lady and operates with integrity. Ms. Phillips is a gentle giant. I also think that Ms. Phillips should always be in the leadership arena. She has helped me personally such as calling the MD when no other nurse did, for staying at my side after surgery when i was afraid and alone. She called my wife when my hands were shaking, and I will never forget her kindness and attention to duty. I am better physically, emotionally, and mentally because of this caring nurse. She was not too busy to help an old soldier. In closing, I would like to thank her for the love and happiness she has displayed. Thank you

I nominate her because she always has a good attitude, and she is a very hard worker. She helps fellow coworkers. She is dependable. She was getting off of work one day, and we had an RRT at 4 pm with a very difficult patient. She put her bags up and assisted with the RRT. This was a long RRT that lasted almost an hour. Her assistance was much needed and much appreciated. She needs to be recognized for her consistent work, assistance, and great attitude.

Ever since I've been assigned to this ward and met Nurse April, she has been exceptional. She has shown outstanding performance in making sure my meds and, most importantly, my needs are met. She has gone over and beyond, making my stay at the hospital more like being at home. She is an asset to your hospital. She goes into detail on all meds you are about to take and makes sure that if you have questions, they are answered. I wish that all the other nurses take their jobs as seriously as April does.

April Phillips is such a valued asset here at the VA. I do not know how long she has been here, but she is always polite, upbeat, and professional. I have seen her in times when we were all stressed to the limits, but she still maintained positivity, and she always put patients first. She has a caring heart, which is evident in her interactions. She was front line on the COVID unit and is always a pleasure to work with. She is truly an asset here. The perfect combination of experience w/ the VA system and a team player that puts patient care first.

Because of COVID, I was encouraged to call nursing staff on 5E before seeing patients face to face to get more background information on the patient. I had the pleasure of speaking with April Phillips on numerous occasions over that time and she was so helpful. She always took the time to answer questions I had about the patient's status and volunteered to set up the iPad and assist with virtual swallowing assessments if needed. The staff on the floor were so busy, so I really can't explain enough how much I appreciated her taking the time to help me. Whenever I would call the floor, I silently prayed that April would answer. Fast forward to the current time when there is no longer a designated COVID floor, and I get to interact with April on an almost daily basis. She is still that wonderful. She provides useful information and keeps up with patients' safety/monitoring so that I can better do my own job. She is a wonderful patient advocate. I so appreciate the hard work of all the nursing staff, but I really can't say enough good things about April.

I have worked with April for 3 or 4 years and always found her efficient, trustworthy, and knowledgeable. She projects a cheerful and pleasant attitude to our patients, coworkers, and visitors April Phillips is truly a nurse that one will fight to have on their unit. She always smiles and gets the job done. She is knowledgeable in nursing and has impeccable customer service skills. She assists visitors, patients, and coworkers without attitude. She is a great team leader and an awesome patient advocate. She is my go-to person when inquiring about safe patient handling and mobility equipment for patients with mobility issues. I believe these characteristics represent what our Memphis VA stands for as an HRO facility.

Every year I tell the guys to make sure and point out a nurse, nursing assistant, etc that has been exceptionally helpful with the annual maintenance process. Well this time, they have nominated April Phillips. In their words, "This could not have been done the way we needed it done without her help". She not only made rooms available but had two or three available ahead of time waiting for the guys to get there. They had to work to keep up with her! They noticed how delightful she was to the veterans and how she put them at ease while relocating them to get the job done all while checking on the Arjo techs to see if they needed anything. Not to mention all of this while being the charge nurse. It is my opinion she brings great credit to the nursing staff and to us all here at the VA and enhances the belief that there is more good than bad at the VA Memphis. Please let her know how grateful I am and how grateful engineering is for her outstanding cooperation, professionalism, and standard of nursing.

I just want to say thank you, nurse April, for taking care of my husband while he was at the VA with Covid. I was so scared for him. It was hard for me not to be there for him. Not being able to see him, I think April was the best caregiver nurse for him. If I wasn't able to be there for him, she sure was the next best thing how she watched his blood pressure and oxygen levels for me. She wasn't upset with me because I called a lot to ask how he was doing. She was patient and caring. It was genuine. She was a great and outstanding nurse.
