May 2026 Honoree
April Shoudy
April, a student nurse, demonstrated extraordinary compassion during a clinical shift at Mercy Medical Center on Zone 81. She cared for a seriously ill patient receiving end-of-life care who was alone and understandably anxious. April remained at the bedside for several hours, offering comfort, reassurance, and human connection. She held the patient’s hand, spoke gently, adjusted pillows, and stayed attentive to every need. When family could not be present, April provided the kindness and companionship the patient needed most. April’s actions reflect the true heart of nursing, including caring for the whole person, not just the illness. Her compassion, dedication, and patient-centered care make her truly deserving of this DAISY Award nomination.
Thank you, April, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
