My mom was very agitated and emotionally upset from the pain. April began to sing a beautiful song about "pressing on" to my mother. Her voice was truly angelic at that moment.
My mother was admitted to Flowers Hospital in Dothan, AL in order to receive a double mastectomy following a breast cancer diagnosis. This was already a very scary time for our family. After the surgery, my mother was taken to the 4th floor and she was assigned to a RN by the name of April Teague. Throughout the night, her pain was excruciating, and nothing seemed to help. She could not have been placed with a more caring, patient nurse who showed that she cared for my mom. Sometime during the night, my mom was very agitated and emotionally upset from the pain. April began to sing a beautiful song about "pressing on" to my mother. Her voice was truly angelic at that moment. Both my mom and I cried while listening. April took excellent care of her that night. Not only physically, but also emotionally. She cared for my mother, and she was there to help me, too. She helped to calm my fears, and if I asked a question, she helped me to better understand. She went above and beyond what I have seen in any nurse in the past, and she did it all with a joyful heart. I expressed my thanks to April for the way that she met my mother's needs and for not being afraid to use her beautiful God-given voice to meet a need that she saw. Words can never tell her just how thankful we both were to have her with us during a very trying and frightening time. Her only response was "I treat my patients the way that I would want to be treated". My prayer is that she continues to do just this for the many, many families that will cross her path. Her service is faith-led as she is truly being the hands and feet of Christ.
