I'd like to recognize April Woods for her above and beyond actions with a patient whom we had on our Medical/Surgical/Skilled Unit. This patient came to OSF Saint Luke Medical Center (SLMC) Medical/Surgical/Skilled Unit after a traumatic event that sent him to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center for extensive injuries. This patient was at SLMC for over a month in our Skilled services and during this time April made a special connection with him. She would spend some of her lunches with him and have conversation. It was over these lunches that she learned of his dogs he had to leave in the care of a friend. April had one of her sons bring in one of the dogs to spend some time with him. On her days off, she would bring in her other son to play cards with this patient. This patient finally admitted to April his intention of coming to SLMC was to get well enough so he would be able to walk out into his field and take his life but after being at SLMC and meeting people like April, he realized all the things he had to live for. To this day, April continues to speak with this patient and continues to give him the support of a true friend.
