Aracely Olvera, RN from MS5 came down to ICU when we were withdrawing life support on a 36 year old patient who had been on the 5th floor for over two years. Aracely made certain that this patient with no family knew that he was not alone and that he had her as a friend and that he was loved. She told stories about their many conversations and celebrated the patient's life. Aracely helped to ease the patient's fear and made the experience more meaningful and easier to bear for all of us. She is the essence of nursing.
