My father passed away on Monday. The love and care he received at Mercy Joplin were phenomenal! While my father was in the ICU, two particular nurses took care of him. His daytime nurse was Arin and his night nurse was Sean.
I came to see my dad after work and Arin didn't know I was there. I saw her lay a hand on his forehead and pray for him! It touched my heart so much to see such love and compassion! She then tenderly washed and cared for my father's dried, dehydrated body. She spoke to him even though he was not conscious. She was like an angel from heaven! It was then; I was frantic about not being able to be with him all the time. I now knew he was receiving the best possible care.
As my father became deathly sick, both Arin and Sean discussed the best care for my father. I could see and hear the love and compassion these two nurses had for their patients. Never before had I had this experience. Even when Arin's shift was over, she remained with Sean and made sure he knew all about my dad and his needs. She didn't have to worry because Sean was on it. I told Sean that I was scared that my dad was suffering, and I wondered if I made the right choice to have him placed on hospice care. Sean and Arin both reassured me that it was for the best.
They both were not just a comfort to my dad; they were a huge comfort to my sister and me as well. There are no words that can express everything these nurses did for my dad and our family. They went above and beyond what they had to do as a nurse.
