Aris is an Extraordinary Nurse in many ways. He is an amazing team player to his fellow nurses, a role model to new nurses and is a patient advocate. His peers would describe him as always putting patients first, energetic, positive, and forward thinking. He recently took care of a patient who was getting ready to discharge. All of a sudden, the patient started complaining of a headache, she said that she was having the worst headache of her life. Aris acted quickly, he took the patient's vitals, notified the physician and received an order for a STAT head CT. Although we do not normally transport our patients to CT, Aris felt that he should go down with the patient to continue to monitor her. While in CT the patient became very anxious, she told Aris how scared she was and he held her hand to calm her down. As Aris and the patient were coming back from CT the patient became unresponsive and a code was called. The code team came and intubated her and she was transferred to the ICU. Unfortunately, the patient suffered from an unrecoverable event and the ICU team treated the patient, so the family had enough time to arrive at the hospital. Once the family was at the bedside they decided to make her comfort care and she died peacefully. Although the patient ultimately passed away, Aris did an extraordinary job listening to his patient and acted quickly. He also was able to comfort the patient during the last moments. Without Aris, her family would not have had time to come say their goodbyes. I am honored to have the privilege of working with Aris every day.
