We had a young patient in the ICU who was very distraught that he would be in the hospital over Christmas. He had a chronic illness that often caused him to be ventilator dependent and unable to verbally communicate with those around him. This often frustrated him since he was not able to be heard. Knowing that he would be stuck in the hospital over Christmas and unable to celebrate the holidays at home, Arlona took it upon herself to provide him with an incredible gift. With her own money, she bought him a tablet and researched the best app available for text to speech capabilities. The patient and his family were overjoyed by her kind, generous, and compassionate gesture. With this gift, the patient has been able to use his right hand to type words which are then read aloud by the tablet, giving him the opportunity to express his feelings and wishes with the people around him. Though he was still in the hospital over Christmas, Arlona gave this patient the best possible gift, she gave him his voice back!
