Josh helped her focus on the sick twin and brought her out of her despair enough that she began interacting with her sick twin and was able to finish her discharge process and embrace both her babies and go home.
We had a patient who delivered twins - Twin One was born with known anomalies incompatible with life and would be discharged to palliative care and hospice. The mom was emotionally shutting down on the day of discharge and distancing herself from the sick twin. She asked everyone to leave her room. Josh went into the room and spent time with the parents. He helped her focus on the sick twin and brought her out of her despair enough that she began interacting with her sick twin and was able to finish her discharge process and embrace both her babies and go home.
I've seen Josh work with our most difficult parents. Parents who are angry and afraid. He has the heart and skills to bring parents to a point of peace. Josh is getting certified in perinatal mental health and participates in a regional group. His dedication to the well-being of our most vulnerable patients and seeing him with his patients is like watching miracles unfold before your eyes.
For this mom who knew her twin only had hours to days to live, Josh became her angel to help get her through her grief to a point she could emotionally embrace her baby. He was the pivoting point that day for her.
