April 2024 Honoree
Arthur Dachroeden, RN
Artie Dachroeden saved the life of a mother and daughter while on vacation in Mexico. While on vacation in Cancun, Artie witnessed two people who were being pulled from the water at his resort. Both patients were electrocuted while in the resort pool. Artie moved to begin assisting with the mother, who responded to 1 minute of CPR, and then attention moved to the child.
While waiting for the AED to arrive, Artie and two other hotel patrons administered CPR to the child for a reported 15 minutes. While waiting for the AED, Artie obtained 3 EpiPens and administered them IM to the child to assist in resuscitation. The AED arrived and gave prompts in Spanish. Knowing how the AED functioned, Artie administered one shock and had ROSC in the child. Both patients were transported to the local hospital and had good outcomes.
This is only one example of the amazing person that Artie is. He is one of the members of our flight crew who is always positive and upbeat, even when things are not going our way. I am only writing this because I do not believe the people he saved will ever know who did it, and probably never will. I am sure Artie is fine with that. However, I think that everyone should recognize who he is, and try to be a little more like Artie.

Thank you, Arthur, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
