A diagnosis that would forever change our family's lives. A diagnosis that left us numb and speechless for a time. A diagnosis that found us looking for answers and longing for comfort. It was during this time over the course of a stay at Kearney Regional Medical Center with my dad that we encountered just that: Comfort. Comfort in the midst of this time that we will never forget, and comfort that we will forever be grateful for. Every single member of the staff that our family encountered at KRMC was exceptional; attentive to our needs, understanding of our situation, patient with our uncertainties, and compassionate beyond our expectations. During a time filled with such emotion, we could not have imagined it happening in a place more adept in caring for people, and in one of more dignity. Our family would like to thank KRMC for my dad's care, and for attending to our needs during this time. Everyone. This includes the kind and helpful administrative staff, to the polite and cheerful ladies in the cafe that went above and beyond normal customer services, to the diligent and proud maintenance/housekeeping team members, the thoughtful and reliable dietary personnel providing outstanding meals and cheerful service, and the entire caring and professional medical staff and nursing body. KRMC has assembled an organization that you can all be proud of.
When a question was posed at discharge regarding whether we have received extraordinary care while at KRMC, the answer was an obvious and resounding "Yes!", much of which had to do with the RN that I am proud to recognize. Ashana Ferguson. I was fortunate enough to be able to stay overnight in the room with my dad during his stay. It was during this time that we were honored to make the acquaintance of Ms. Ferguson, who was a delight; always caring, thoughtful, and compassionate, with a joyful personality that lit up the room. We looked forward to Ashana being on duty, and could count on her kindness, responsiveness, and patience, and anticipated her respectful demeanor, tasteful sense of humor, and entertaining conversations during her visits. She just always knew the right thing to say (or not say) and do, and was a great reassurance during our stay. Although she was very busy, she never rushed his care, always took time to answer questions, visit with my dad, and listen to his anecdotal stories (even some, more than once). A charismatic nurse, advocating for the best interests of my dad, and maintaining his dignity throughout his treatment and care; Ashana is a very deserving candidate for this recognition.
Please accept our family's thanks for her excellent care of our dad, and our mother's husband of 54 years. I regret not remembering the names of each of the nursing staff members that helped us understand, cope, and begin to heal, but want them all to know that their kind and gentle ways were appreciated and will not be forgotten. We were comforted to know that this same care and compassion was shared by everyone at the nursing station in the PCU, and experienced their nursing excellence repeatedly.

Ashana was there for me when I arrived and throughout the night. I came to the hospital in an emergency and she spent the rest of her shift caring for me. She was very compassionate towards me and my circumstances. She relates well to people and we need more wonderful human beings like her. She is definitely in the right profession.

I believe she has a great bedside manner. She made me feel comfortable going into surgery and has done her best to make me feel comfortable while staying here at Kearney Regional Medical Center. To all the nurses and staff thank you for being kind to me, especially Ashana.
