May 2022 Honoree
Ashelynne H Sakkalaek, RN, BSN
LT Sakkaleak took over multiple roles, covering for RN and LVN shortages in our clinic and performed them with gusto, and keen attention to detail despite not having any prior experience working as a primary care nurse. In particular, there was a patient who I saw that had a broken leg. She needed surgery as soon as possible. LT Sakkalaek coordinated her urgent referrals to orthopedics, both in the MTF and off base, to get her the earliest appointment. She took the initiative to help her get a wheelchair so her mobility was not impaired.
She has taken on the responsibility to properly train other ancillary staff with scheduling and other administrative tasks to make sure the clinic is running smoothly. I have not seen someone so dedicated, especially from someone who has been here for such a short time. Her cheerleading background certainly prepared her for nursing. Her upbeat personality, compassion, never-ending energy, and sheer determination made for an enjoyable and memorable time working with her. These qualities are the reasons I am nominating her for the DAISY Award.

Thank you, Ashelynne H, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
