On D’s birthday, Nurse Ashlee surprised him with a bag of goodies and a birthday box of decorations. She went above and beyond to think of his birthday, and he felt so special and loved.
Five years ago, my son D was diagnosed at age five with Crohn’s Disease. He started infusion treatments soon after at The Woodlands infusion center and was lucky enough get nurse Ashlee as his infusion nurse. After a while, my son started to request her and we would be so excited when he was assigned to her when we would come to get infusions, which is every 3-4 weeks. Nurse Ashlee goes above and beyond to keep D comfortable, relaxed, and calm during all the steps of an infusion. She always has little toys and treats waiting for him on his bed and asks him questions about school, football, and anything else he is into. I enjoy visiting with her too talking about her daughter going to Baylor where I went to school.
Last summer, she tragically and suddenly lost her husband to an impaired driver. Despite her own grief and monumental loss, she has never wavered, being focused on giving her patients the most excellent care and compassion possible. She has been such a bright light to me and my son on some of our worst days. On D’s birthday, Nurse Ashlee surprised him with a bag of goodies and a birthday box of decorations. There are so many more things I could say about Nurse Ashlee, like how she remembers he likes the cold numbing spray or how important it is for him to order his chicken fingers right when we get there. Nurse Ashlee is a very special person to my son and me, and we are so grateful for her.
