Ashlee was sitting in a chair and was holding my mom's hand with the music still playing on the cell. My mom was holding her hand and looking at her peacefully.
I'm crying as I'm writing this. Whenever I'm going through rough times, I feel the universe always knows when to send an angel. Ashlee was definitely my angel. Ashlee was the day nurse. Right away she spoke highly of my mom saying how precious my mom was, etc... I thought maybe she was just a nice, sweet nurse. But as I told her the background on how we ended up in OKC she mentioned a little something about how she was dealing with a situation with her mom as well. We talked about my mom's progress that morning, as my mom was responding well for the Speech pathologist, Neuro PA, doctors... I saw Ashlee getting choked up and left the room. There was another time Ashlee got choked up when I told her I had friends and family leave voice messages so I could play them for my mom; and that it seemed to lift her spirts up more.
Ashlee was emotional for my mom, and it felt great to know that a nurse cared so much for my mom like it was their own family member. She would speak to my mom so sweetly. This warmed my heart because I knew my mom was in good hands with Ashlee. My cousin had sent me a YouTube video of a Chinese "peace" song. She asked me to play it for my mom. I couldn't understand it but based on the captions it was a church song saying everything would be ok and to have strength to get better, etc.... Every time I would play it my mom would mumble along with it like she was singing. I had left that playing when I went down to the cafeteria. I ended up going back to the room later to get my water. When I walked in, Ashlee was sitting in a chair and was holding my mom's hand with the music still playing on the cell. My mom was holding her hand and looking at her peacefully. She asked if she could say a prayer for my mom. I ended up crying.
Ashlee was the angel I needed for a while. She was a god send. I really hope she gets this award because she definitely went above and beyond. Ashlee is an angel.
