While caring for a veteran with myasthenia gravis, this amazing nurse was able to recognize that the patient was heading toward respiratory distress. She worked quickly to get respiratory, neurology, and pulmonary to the bedside while keeping the family and veteran calm. She advocated for the patient while he could not talk and was able to get the patient moved to a higher level of care. This jump to act and level of excellence stopped the patient from possibly being intubated later in the day. Her quick thinking amazed the family and staff in the room. The family was asking for them to move with them to the ICU.
