Ashleigh Bol, RN

Before diving into all of the wonderful ways nurse Ashleigh took care of my grandmother and our family in her final hours, I want to note that this nomination is being made by all 11 of her grandkids. It goes without saying that a patient in the ICU requires above average care. It was immediately evident that Ashleigh took this seriously because she was extremely attentive to our grandmothers needs in making sure she was comfortable and felt safe. When it became evident that things were declining, Ashleigh checked in on my grandmother more frequently, working hard to make sure that there was no lack in care for comfort or anxiety. Whenever my grandmother or anyone else needed something, Ashleigh was right there ASAP. This was particularly impressive because again, the ICU is a unit filled with hard patients. Ashleigh was also very patient with our family, explaining what was going on with her care. Many of these concepts were over our head and quite scary, especially as she was declining, but she was willing to explain them multiple times and often to multiple groups of people. She also ensured that we were connected with any other doctors or patient services we needed. Her care of our family was on another level when she ordered food for all of us. Taking care of yourself in difficult times is easy to forget, so essentially Ashleigh took 30 plus additional people into her care that day. To my grandmother, her family was everything, so we know that it meant a lot to her to know that her family was being taken care of during a difficult time. In a unit where an extra amount of care is the standard, Ashleigh truly went above and beyond showing a level of humanity that has become rare in this world. Just in case all of your names cannot make it onto this nomination, Ashleigh, we would like to thank you very much for everything you did that day.
