It was a dark day for my husband and me. The surgery we thought would be the end of stomach cancer for my husband revealed that the cancer had spread and was Stage 4. Ashleigh was kind, considerate, and very competent. Somehow, she was able to get him past the doldrums, taking his meds, and walking a little. By the end of the day, he was telling her stories of his Army days, of growing up, and even his favorite jokes. It was her genuine interest and kindness that made us both forget our bad news for a while. I will never forget how she was willing to listen and tried so hard to give him a cheerful afternoon and evening. I still marvel that she was able to bring light into that room.
