Ashley was taking care of a patient with developmental delays. He had been extubated earlier in the morning and was scared because his mother was unavailable. Ashley stayed with him for an hour comforting him until his mother could come in. Later that evening after the family went home, Ashley sensed he was becoming scared/uncomfortable again and she went into his room, pulled up a chair next to his bed, and began reading out loud the picture books his mother had left. It was an outstanding display of compassion, reverence, excellence, and caring. Ashley is an absolute asset to the nursing profession. She selflessly gives herself to her patients and co-workers every single shift.
