Unfortunately, our labor & delivery process and subsequent NICU stay for our twins this past fall started traumatically, and we found ourselves lost and confused in those initial hours and days. We don't believe in a higher power, but by some luck and good fortune, Ashley was one of the admitting nurses who received our twins and helped transition them from trauma to the beginning of exceptional, heartfelt care.

After spending seven weeks as a NICU parent, I know that the entire UCLA Santa Monica NICU staff is top-notch and should be praised for their efforts—they are genuinely all heroes. But her passion for her job, skill, and sincere care for her patients and their families rose above and beyond.

We observed her scientific and clinical understanding, built trusting and meaningful connections with families, and served as a mentor/leader on the floor to other nurses (never afraid to challenge an NP or MD in the spirit of delivering the best care possible).

When our first twin (boy) was discharged from the NICU, and we couldn't be around as often with our second (girl), we felt guilty and feared she would spend a lot of time alone in her bassinet. However, we usually walked into the NICU to find Ashley holding her, talking to her, and smiling at her. It was clear that Ashley delivered excellent clinical care to our daughter—but beyond that, she went the extra mile to give our baby time out of her bassinet and provide a human connection and love while we couldn't be by her side. In the end, it was clear that Ashley had built a genuine connection with her, and while immeasurable, we know our daughter is better off because of it.

Thank you for everything, Ashley. You're outstanding at your job and are a true hero!
