After 27 years as a practicing physician, I have worked with only a few nurses who not only lead effectively but also promote an atmosphere of high morale and comradery. Ashley Christy is the BEST example of such a nurse. Endoscopy expanded its volume from a seemingly maximum capacity by an additional 25% while we were recovering from a pandemic, dealing with ever-increasing equipment failures and supply shortages, and hiring an additional endoscopist and necessary additional staff. All in the face of the great resignation. Other units resorted to travel nurses, we did not. Ashley Christy is the one who successfully steered endoscopy through these challenging times. True, her predecessors paved the way, but she seized the opportunity and managed it very well. It was a joy and a pleasure to be a part of that journey. If there are any doubts consider this: In her tenure, no one quit. Why? Because while she navigated these challenges she created an environment of fun. Yes, fun at work. She is the sultan of sarcasm, she is an excellent practitioner of self-deprecation, she can put herself down and tout her excellence all in one breath. But that's not all, she enlists others to do the same. Even the quietist nurses and techs in the club here have blossomed and joined in on the fun. Yet, they all maintain the highest level of professionalism. No one wants to leave. To be able to work and hear laughter from your co-workers is a true joy. It becomes obvious when Ashley is off as there is a lot less laughing and a bit more anxiety regarding how well we get this all done! And can we ignore this problem until Ashley returns? Ashley Christy is an Extraordinary Nurse, as well as all of the above, she is an excellent patient care nurse and knows how to care for critically ill people. I'm not sure if I could work without her.
