I am a nurse who works med surg. I had my first code as a new grad recently. Ashley came to my patient's room and was a great educator on how to participate in the code. Afterward, we had to transfer my patient to the ED. She waited to walk with me, and as I cried, she shielded my tears from other nurses. When we got down there, she told me about her first code and how she was emotional, too. She never once made me feel dumb during or after the code. After I gave report, she told me to go back upstairs, take a minute, and then go back to care for my other patients. She was truly a God-send that day, getting me through my first code.
