Her leadership encourages staff to stretch beyond their comfort zones in a supportive environment where learning and improvement are always valued.
I would like to nominate this nurse leader for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award in recognition of her dedication to her team, her commitment to excellence, and the positive impact she has on both staff and patients. As a new manager, she has quickly established herself as a leader who is deeply invested in the growth and success of her team. She consistently ensures that quality metrics are being met while supporting nurses and CSTs in their professional development. She challenges her staff to become the best versions of themselves by providing opportunities to grow, learn, and take on new responsibilities. Her leadership encourages staff to stretch beyond their comfort zones in a supportive environment where learning and improvement are always valued.
She also extends her commitment to education beyond her department by mentoring high school and college students who are exploring careers in healthcare. She takes time to share her knowledge, encourage curiosity, and provide meaningful exposure to the healthcare environment. By supporting students early in their journey, she helps inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals and demonstrates the importance of mentorship and service within the profession. She fosters a culture of respect within the surgical department. She treats her staff, surgeons, anesthesia providers, and colleagues with professionalism and appreciation. She also demonstrates great respect for the wisdom workers in the department, valuing their years of experience and ensuring their knowledge is recognized and shared. Because of this approach, she has earned the respect and trust of her team as well as the providers she works closely with.
Patient safety and quality are always at the forefront of her leadership. She is committed to ensuring a safe surgical environment for every patient and works diligently to maintain high standards of care. Her proactive approach to quality improvement has also led to the identification of several cost-saving measures that benefit the department and organization. She leads by example and is never hesitant to step in when help is needed. She shares in call coverage alongside her team and is always willing to assist other departments when challenges arise. Her collaborative spirit extends across the organization, where she works closely with other department managers to improve processes and strengthen teamwork.
Education and professional growth are core components of her leadership philosophy. She actively seeks educational opportunities for herself while also ensuring that her staff has access to the resources and mentorship needed to advance their knowledge and skills. She advocates strongly for her team and for the department, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are supported. Her leadership reflects the core values of the Indiana Organization for Nursing Leadership. She promotes education by encouraging professional development and mentorship, advocates for nursing and departmental needs within the organization, demonstrates respect for diversity and experience within her team, and upholds ethical practice and accountability. She also strengthens relationships by fostering collaboration, networking, and the sharing of best practices among nurses and healthcare professionals.
Through her dedication, integrity, and commitment to excellence, she has created a culture where staff feel supported, valued, and empowered to provide the highest level of care. Her leadership positively impacts not only her team but also the patients and families they serve. For these reasons, she is truly deserving of recognition as a DAISY Nurse Leader.
