My beloved husband D, of 50 years, passed away in October 2024 from the traumatic outcome of esophageal perforation due to a choking accident in 2020 (At the height of the COVID pandemic), and then my world turned upside down. His life was saved at Weston Cleveland Clinic. Then followed a long and arduous convalescent journey there, including Cleveland Clinic hospitals and some rehab facilities. Countless professionals played a big role in his recovery, especially the amazing nurses, beginning with David being bedridden for three months before he returned home to me and more care. Still, one nurse in particular stands out above the rest: Ashley Doby at Tradition.

Her remarkable care for my husband was commendable throughout his last day. I admired her steadfast dedication, support, and kindness towards him. When she entered D's room, his face would "light up" as if a familiar friend came to visit. She did not just pop him a pill and check his vitals, then quickly leave. She always took time to treat him like the human being that he was. And yes, she was still very busy with other patients, but somehow managed to make the extra time for him to joke and bring treats. He was a charmer who had a sweet tooth, after all, and loved to joke, despite the fact that he was seriously ill. My husband passed away at home shortly after his discharge.

I never felt he was neglected when she was on duty and didn't get the dreaded nighttime calls when sleep was difficult. Ashley always showed a positive attitude and skill above and beyond the norm, putting both of us at ease. Such admirable characteristics in her profession are truly hard to find, given today's complex medical challenges. How lucky we both were to know her!
