Ashley caringly spoke to me, asked how I felt, and continually asked, “do you need anything?”
For the past few months, I hadn't been feeling well. I was beginning to see darker-colored urine, and testing showed increasing protein. My primary doctor had prescribed me some different antibiotics, which were not helping.
I finally committed to checking into the ER to figure out what was happening. After a negative CT Scan, Ultrasound, and blood and urine testing, I was admitted to the Telemetry unit to be cared for by a Nephrologist. The next day, I met Ashley who began caring for me. What sticks out in my mind from my stay at BSW was the constant asking, “Do you need anything?” When I met her, she was starting her day shift. Ashley caringly spoke to me, asked how I felt, and continually asked, “do you need anything?” Often, I didn’t need anything. But the question and sentiment showed how kind and compassionate of an RN Ashley is. Ashley excels explicitly at:
1) Demonstrating kindness
2) Compassion
3) Building a personal connection by being personable with her patients Nursing schools can attempt to “teach” these skills. But to me, only exceptional nurses embody and demonstrate these skills, which made such a meaningful difference while I was cared for by Ashley. She is an exceptional nurse and a shining example of how all RNs should conduct themselves with patients. I would like to recognize her for her outstanding service!
