Today when we left work in two separate cars, Ashley and I drove down Hollow Tree right next to the hospital. When we approached the stop sign, I saw a lot of people and a car that was in the trees hanging off the ground. I drove by slowly to assess what was going on. In my rearview mirror, I saw Ashley pull over. I called her and turned around to meet her. By the time I got back to the scene, everyone who was previously there had left but not Ashley. The driver was unconscious and highly inebriated but did not appear to be hurt. Ashley was standing with her hand gently on his shoulder talking calmly to him, trying to get him to sit down and be still. She made small talk and used her sweet voice to keep him from leaving. She comforted him for the entire 30 minutes that it took for help to arrive. She talked with him about Jesus and how she could care less about what he had done and that she was only worried if he was okay. Her sweet soul kept this man from leaving and got him the help that he needed. I was so proud of her use of therapeutic communication. So many people drove by, including me, but Ashley stopped and was not going to leave until this man got the help that he needed. She is such an amazing nurse both inside and outside of the hospital.
