June 2026 Honoree
Ashley Harrison 2026, LPN
Ashley is an extraordinary nurse who made a lasting difference in our hospital experience. My daughter, who is autistic, can be especially sensitive and fearful in medical settings. From the moment Ashley stepped in, she went above and beyond to ensure my daughter felt safe, understood, and truly cared for.
She took the time to gently explain every step before it happened, patiently talking my daughter through her fears and meeting her exactly where she was emotionally. When my daughter's lungs became a concern, Ashley didn't just follow orders; she took initiative. She proactively began helping loosen her lungs and even brought bubbles to encourage breathing exercises in a way that felt like play, helping prevent pneumonia without causing fear or stress.
Ashley listened not only to the doctors, but to my daughter. Her goal was clearly to heal without traumatizing, and she was remarkably successful. She was incredibly mindful of sensory needs, making sure my daughter was comfortable and never overly stimulated. Ashley checked on her multiple times every hour, simply to make sure she was okay.
On days she wasn't our nurse, she still stopped to check on me whenever she saw me in the hallway, a level of compassion that meant more than she could know. We sincerely wished Ashley could have been our nurse for the entire hospital stay. In my daughter's words, Ashley was her favorite person throughout the entire visit.
Ashley embodies everything the DAISY Award represents: exceptional clinical skill, deep compassion, and genuine human connection. We will never forget the comfort and kindness she gave our family during a very stressful time.
