She consistently creates a safe, caring environment and makes them feel truly comfortable and cared for, not just as patients or family members, but also as human beings.
Ashley has had several weeks of difficult patient situations, but has handled them professionally and with grace.
Last week, we had an oncology patient who was nearing the end of his life. Ashley had him several days in a row, creating a continuity in care for his family that was extremely important to them. She made them feel comfortable and supported, and the patient felt loved and safe.
Ashley advocated for this patient and his family (especially his sister) during the times they needed it the most. When this patient eventually passed away around shift change, she stayed late to make sure that his body and his family were cared for by a person that they trusted implicitly and had been with them throughout their journey.
This is not the only time I have seen Ashley create a strong, loving, and compassionate relationship with a patient and their family. She consistently creates a safe, caring environment and makes them feel truly comfortable and cared for, not just as patients or family members, but also as human beings. If they have needs that need to be met, or met in a different way, she advocates for them.
She is never afraid to speak up when her patients and families need her voice. Ashley is also full of medical knowledge and brings years of experience to the H/O floor. If I had a child in the hospital, I would absolutely want Ashley by our side. It is an honor to work alongside her both as a colleague and as a friend.
