Ashley was assigned a primary nurse of a patient who started withdrawing from family, friends, and staff. This patient also began refusing to eat, turning his head away from any nutrition. On one particular evening, the patient stated that he would eat a piece of fried chicken. Ashley made some necessary phone calls and then went and purchased the fried chicken for the patient. On another day, the same patient wanted a strawberry milkshake. There was no strawberry ice cream anywhere on CVIU, so Ashley participated in a miracle and act of compassion. Through some means, Ashley located strawberry ice cream on another unit, secured the ice cream, returned to the unit and personally made the patient a hand whipped strawberry milkshake.

This is only one account of why Ashley is deserving of a DAISY Award. It is my privilege to nominate her for this award.
