July 2016 Honoree
ashley malak, RN
Ashley had a patient with neuro changes. MD's were calling it a UTI, but Ashley looked further into it. After doing some further neuro checks, she felt the patient needed a lumbar puncture to rule out meningitis. I was able to relay her assessment with my assessments to the physician, who ordered the lumbar puncture for the next morning. The patient was soon diagnosed with HSV meningitis and was put on the proper medications. I am thankful for nurses, like Ashley, who think outside the box and don't ignore what their gut is telling them.
Thank you, Ashley, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
