Ashley Martin is one of those nurses who always has a smile on her face. Her optimism is contagious in a good way for the Medical ICU. Ever since she has joined our team she has been focused on what she can do for others; however, it does not stop with just her patients she is taking care of that day. She is always coming up with ideas to brighten the days of our fellow nurses, all the patients, and their families. I specifically want to mention her latest contribution to a local nursing home and rehabilitation center. Ashley had the idea to "adopt" this local nursing home for the Christmas holiday. She wanted to have a fund raiser (all on her own) to raise money so that she could buy items off of the resident's wish/needs list. She came up with the idea to make and sell holiday-themed badge reels. They became an instant success and she was barely keeping up with the demand as it spiraled out of MICU and into the other departments in the hospital. She ended up buying a card reader to better serve her buyers! As an end result, she raised over $1,600, well over her goal. She was able to buy 3-4 things off of each resident's list with money to spare. With the spare money she bought enough winter themed blankets to give to our own MICU patients who were here Christmas day. Ashley embodies what it means to be a DAISY Nurse.
