Ashley creates an environment of safety for Emergency Department staff and all patients through her dual role as a staff nurse and the Safety Officer. She is trustworthy, compassionate and is always available and approachable with any questions or staff needs.
One day, we had a patient throw "gasoline" all over the ED waiting room and was acting erratically. Ashley took control of a scary situation. She remained calm. Safely secluded the patient and quarantined the waiting room and worked with the authorities while conducting a "Code Orange". Ashley also had to quickly divert staff and doctors and patients needing to check-in to the ED to a different location, outside the ED.
She acts as a mentor for all staff and is always available for assistance and advice to staff while she is in the office, as our safety officer and while she is coaching and encouraging peers, as our staff nurse.
