Ashley, along with another nurse, cared for baby A during the end of her life and made sure to capture memories for these parents with their baby.
Ashley went above and beyond for not only a very critical baby but also for her family. A baby in our NICU was critically ill and needed a lot of love and attention. Ashley was able to not only provide exemplary care to baby A but also to her family. The mother of baby A had a large change in her mental status, and Ashley advocated for this parent. She provided compassionate care to the mother, alerted the appropriate resources and healthcare providers, and provided emergency resources for the baby's father in case the mother needed help during the weekend hours.
Unfortunately, baby A became very ill and required one-on-one care. During this time, Ashley was still able to advocate for baby A and considered the mom's current mental health status. Mom was in a postpartum mental health crisis needing a lot of care, compassion, and services. Ashley connected providers, ensuring that both the mother and father of baby A were supported. Ashley, along with another nurse, cared for baby A during the end of her life and made sure to capture memories for these parents with their baby.
Once both mom and dad were able to spend more time with their baby, Ashley walked the mother to the Emergency Department to ensure she was going to get the care she deserved during her mental health crisis. The day after her ED admission, Ashley went back down with a lactation consultant to check on both the mom and dad.
Ashley is an amazing nurse who not only made a difference during an extremely difficult time for this family but could have potentially saved this mom's life by acting and providing exceptional care
