The patient required urgent transfer to the ICU, and throughout this high-stress situation, Ashley remained calm, focused, and fiercely patient-centered.
Recently, Ashley cared for a bone marrow transplant patient whose condition rapidly deteriorated. At the start of her shift, she took over care of a very sick patient during a situation that quickly became a medical emergency. The patient required urgent transfer to the ICU, and throughout this high-stress situation, Ashley remained calm, focused, and fiercely patient-centered. What truly sets Ashley apart, however, is not just her skill but her dedication. She stayed at the patient's bedside, explaining what was happening and offering reassurance through every step. Despite the urgency, she made sure the patient felt safe, heard, and never alone. She also communicated compassionately and clearly with the patient's family, offering support and comfort during an incredibly frightening time. She continued to provide patient care after transfer to the ICU to ensure proper protocols were followed and that the patient received his bone marrow transplant. From Dr. S.

Coming into the BMU was emotionally difficult for all of us. My son has been through so much in the past 5 1/2 years that we did not know what his body was gonna be able to handle. Ashley was wonderful and helped us learn and adapt to the unit. We love our Cardinal Glennon nurses, from the Costas Center nurses to the four North nurses; they are amazing. R and V have done an amazing job finding quality nurses. There is one nurse who consistently exceeds my/our expectations. She embodies what it’s like to be a pediatric nurse. She is spunky and fun, she is loving and kind, yet she is not too easy on the kiddos and helps them to get hard things done. Ashley walked our family through the transplant process and has been such a blessing. She does fun things like putting her patients’ favorite foods on their TPN, decorating the doors of their room (that they cannot leave) with their favorite characters, to making sure there’s a joke of the day every day to bring smiles. She really gets to know her patients. Well, we recently had the scariest day of our lives and had to take our son down to the PICU, and she stayed by his side. She knew that he needed her, and she stayed with him for as long as she was allowed. She worked fiercely to help him. When he came up from the PICU, thankfully, he was in really bad shape, and she worked with him daily. She made a daily plan for him that worked because she had gotten to know him and knew his limitations and how to get him to do what was needed. Besides making this daily chart, which hung on the door, she gave him goals to be added to the daily to-dos. She then (unfortunately) had to be gone for a little bit of time for vacation, but she didn’t stop at just leaving for vacation; she made sure that the daily chart was updated and made him a goal chart that included jokes and added things to help him recover. She informed the nurses of what motivated my son. I firmly believe that her care has helped him recover and recover faster. I totally understand why she is his favorite nurse. She is such an amazing asset to Cardinal Glennon.
