November 2020 Honoree
ashley nichol, RN
A patient was admitted to our ICU as a John Doe. The patient was brought in my EMS and had a very poor prognosis. Ashley was very concerned that this patient may die without family or friends being aware. Ashley took it upon herself to contact EMS to find out where this patient was picked up as he was homeless. EMS provided information about a woman to contact in the area that might know the homeless person. Based on the information the women provided the police, Ashley was able to locate a picture of the patient on the internet and was able to identify our John Doe. Ashley successfully contacted a family member and informed them of the situation so that they could play a role in the end of life decisions.
Thank you, Ashley, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
