April 2026 Honoree
Ashley O'Day, BSN, RN, CCRN
I am writing to nominate Ashley O'Day, RN, for recognition for the exceptional care she provides for her patients and their families. Over the past three days, my younger sister has been in the ICU on life support, and I have been at her bedside as her voice and advocate. During this traumatic and overwhelming time, Ashley has been a constant source of compassion, strength, and expertise. From the moment she introduced herself, Ashley treated both my sister and our family with remarkable kindness and respect. She is thoughtful, empathetic, encouraging, and tireless in her dedication to my sister's care.
What has meant the most to me is not only her clinical knowledge, but the way she sees my sister as a person-not just a patient. She took the time to make her look more like herself, even painting her fingernails and toenails so she would feel familiar and cared for. Those small, loving details have brought comfort to our family in ways words can hardly express. Ashley has listened to me ask countless questions, and she has never once made me feel like a bother. She will literally pull up a chair beside me and patiently talk me through what is happening, explaining complex medical information in a way I can understand. Her ability to combine professionalism with genuine human connection is extraordinary.
In moments when fear and uncertainty felt overwhelming, Ashley's calm presence helped me find the strength to keep going. This has been one of the most difficult experiences our family has ever faced, and Ashley has been an excellent provider in every sense of the word. She advocates for my sister, cares for her with dignity, and supports our family with heartfelt compassion. I cannot praise her enough, and I will forever be grateful that she was the nurse at my sister's side and at mine during these days. Ashley O'Day represents the very best of nursing and of Grant Medical Center. She is a true example of what it means to heal with both skill and heart, and she is deeply deserving of this recognition. With sincere gratitude. Amy Bartles
